Trends in Chinese Invention Patents: Growth of Enterprises and Improvement in Industrialization Rate

The announcement from the China National Intellectual Property Administration highlights the proactive efforts and achievements of Chinese enterprises in relation to invention patents. Notably, over 70% of valid domestic invention patents are held by enterprises, with the total number exceeding 3 million. This indicates that Chinese companies recognize intellectual property as a critical asset and are actively investing in its acquisition and utilization.

The industrialization rate of invention patents has increased year-on-year, reaching 57.6% among national high-tech enterprises. This is a crucial factor supporting China’s technological innovation and industrial growth. The significantly higher industrialization rate among high-tech enterprises compared to non-high-tech enterprises demonstrates the leadership role played by these high-tech firms.

Furthermore, the average revenue generated from the industrialization of invention patents used in self-branded products is more than double that of OEM products. This shows that the effective integration of patents and branding directly contributes to company profits. Additionally, 56.1% of companies focus on critical technologies and core components in industry-academia collaboration, underscoring the important role of partnerships with universities and research institutions in technological development.

These data indicate that China is making steady progress in the field of intellectual property rights, which will continue to be a crucial factor in enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises. It is essential to closely monitor these trends and provide appropriate advice to clients. For companies entering the Chinese market, understanding the local intellectual property landscape and strategically utilizing patents will be key to their success.
